Is there a way to test a mySQL query before I run it? I have a really big insert, and I don't want it to get half way then mess up over something.
I'd like to do a dry run.

Test it in phpMyAdmin. If it works, then delete it
Thanks,
That's OK if I have phpMyAdmin installed (I happen to in this case, but not always).
However the query I'm running will add about 3500 rows.
Does mysql really not have a dry-run mechanism?
Not that I know of. You could always copy the table structure to another table and try it there. phpMyAdmin seems to just be convenient. You really don't need to do it there. You can also execute it through the command line or whatever your choice of connection is.
