htaccess problem

I am not sure if I am posting this at the right place. But I hope it is the right place.

A while back I was posting here to find help with the search engine friendly code and the rewrite module.

Finally, I was able to figure this out and it is working just fine. But now I am having a problem with my htaccess file and I am wandering if this could be part of the problem.

Here is my setup.

I have a system installed that needs to have a username and password in order to access certain places on my website.

There are now 2 users (we have moren than 1500) who can't get a page displayed. And I don't know why. Could it be that I need to rewrite something there as well?

The link looks something like this

username:[e-mail]

When I click on the link I will be directed to the correct place. The two users get the following message

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for might have been removed or had its name changed.

Could this be related to the rewriting of my hyperlinks?

This coule be their browser version. Microsoft's latest update to IE disables the use of username:password in the URL

Do you know if there is a way around this? Something they can change? Or do i have to change my stuff? This is bad news...

First I've heard this...do you have a reference? I thought I had latest IE and user: password@url still works OK.
