XML sockets With PHP

I have been looking at making a chat room in flash using sockets but i need a server and i saw that u can use php to do so like a server but im not sure how. I see it working some thing like this.

Flash (User Interface) -> XML Socket (Information) -> PHP (Send information to all other clients).

Or so im not sure how to do XML to well . 🙁

if you are running your own server (dedicated or in-house), you would probably be better off using a java sockets server. Check out Unity at http://www.moock.org/unity/ . I can't remember the price exactly, but I know it's not much. The beauty of the product is both in the java sockets server and the rich client side API(ie, flash action script API) .
