Ok I have a slight dilema and I'm not exactly sure how to tackle it. It is not PHP related so Im sticking this topic in here and I get the best results on this board so here we go...

This morning I got a letter through the post addressed to my domain name followed by my house address. At first I though, GREAT! fan mail, woooooo.

But it turned oput that it was from the EU REGISTRY SERVICES . Interesting i thought. They were asking me to renew my domain or face deletion. I was doubtful because I am registered with GoDaddy.com and have only recently renewed my contract with them. I have also just renewed my contract with my server.

So I assumed that there was no one else i owed money to. However, to make myself feel a llittle more comfortable I contacted goDaddy.com directly and they answered saying that I shouldn't have to pay any further fees other than to them.

The letter I got also contained an email address for information. I did so and havnt recieved a reply. They also provided a number, so seeing as I hadnt gotten an email I thought I'd phone them. Guess what.... Number not recognised.

My main concern is this.....

If I just leave this alone will it go away? I mean have any of you ever come across something similar? Is this a spam tryign tog et me to send them money? What do you think I should do?

There was a problem with some company in the US trying to do the same. Just ignore it. They will think that they have the wrong address and not bother you anymore. (remember, spam is free to send. postage isn't)

Sounds like a scam. GoDaddy should take care of all of that for you, and if they don't go after them.

You can probably just tear it up and throw it away.

I get handfuls of these crap letters every time one of my domains is up for renewal (starting about 4-5 months in advance, even). They're usually just companies trying to get you to register with them (read: advertisements/junkmail). Unless it's from the company you registered with, it's probably best to just disregard it.

P.S.
Recently Ive started getting letters from companies trying to sell me search engine placement services. What a load. Those too are trash can fodder. 😃

If you're feeling public-spirited, you could try dobbing them in to your local consumer affairs bureau.
http://www.econsumer.gov/ is an address I keep around for this purpose.
