[Resolved] my forum works but bad prev/next links

Ive built a forum a while back and now thats its getting some real use ive come across a major problem.

Since it was getting used more I added prev/next links to cut down on how many topics were being displayed. That went fine. It was when I tried to add it to the replys section of the threads.

The problem is probly at my fault for bad database structure. But there might be a way around it.

My topic table has the subject and message/comment in the same table. The problem is when I add the prev/next links it only works with my reply table.

So every page will have at the top the first reply aka the topic starters message. I know if I have the topic starters message go into the replys table everything would work. But I cant think of a reliable way for when someone makes a new thread for that thread ID to carry over to the reply table where the first message will be. I hope that this makes sense.

Any ideas?

Fixed the problem. Not happy with the fix because I had to dump all of the post. Upset a number of people but it was for the best and they know it. I changed how each new thread is made. When the make the new thread it adds a new row to the topic table. I then do a query to find what the ID is of the new row by searching for the name of the user and the date it was made. I then have it send the messages to the reply table with the new ID. Everything works fine now.

Oh the reason for the dump was now when you view the threads it does not pull the old threads messages from the topics rows because that collum no longer exist.

Heres what I did that allowed me to find the topicid so that when I added the new topic starters message to the reply table I would know what the topicid was.

//Add the the New Thread to the topics table

//Then

//Find the TOPICID

$newrow = mysql_fetch_array($findrow);
