query help... distinct? group by?

I have a table with a couple thousand rows that looks like this:

voteID 	  slipID 	     ipaddress 
1		          2757	      21.34.22.33
2		          1627	      13.54.34.222
3		          1399	      44.35.34.123
4		          2757	      68.135.141.84

The table records votes for different slips....

I need to create a query that will return the slipID's with the most votes, or rows in decending order....

Is there a way to select distinct by the slipID, but still return how many times each slipID occurred?

any help on where to start with this would be appreciated....
