[Resolved] capture muti fields from db table in form

Hi it's me again,

I have a form for members to post points. Based on a selection from a radio box I tell it to connect to another table for a dropdown list. I need to pull 3 pieces of information from this table. I just am not seeing how to do the 3rd one. I will post an example of what I have so far BUT, it's not capturing information from the 3rd field because I don't know where to put it, lol.

The field I use to show the list I don't want to capture for the post. I want to capture "point_amt" and "point_count"

I know it's probably something real simple but I'm a newbie so humor me ok? lol

The option pulldown has two places to store data: the value= and the >label</option

You don't have a place to put a third hunk of data. You CAN build one in, but you probably don't have the skills yet to then access it.

What are you trying to accomplish? If you know the point_id, you can manage all the data handling when the user clicks the submit button. You'll capture the point_id at that time, and if you need to know the point_count or amount, you can access it in the background.

Hi nemonoman, thanks for replying to my post. You have been a big help to me on these Forums so far and I greatly appreciate it.

So, logically, I have the info in an array already so I should be able to call it from there? Is that what you mean by "in the background"?

Should I consider using a different variable for this array?

I'm not sure on this but can I declare the new $point_amt = 'point_amt' and $point_count='point_count'(maybe I have that backwards lol) to be passed over the $_POST vars at the top of my script?

I am confused on calling all the arrays in my form the same $sql array. Should a lookup table use a different $var for holding the elements from the table?

Thanks and don't laugh at all my questions ok? lol. I have a LOT to learn yet. I'm not afraid to ask a silly question because if you answer it, then I have learned something new :-).

Back to my original question: What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to change the point_amount and point_count information for this id?

I digress, lol.

Ok, the points1table holds all the values I want for each record in that table.
EX:
id point_descrip point_id point_amount point_count
01 reg tourney win RTW 100 1
02 reg tourney ru RTRU 75 1

etc, etc

Actually, I DO want 3 caught. I didn't post the code correctly. The "point_descrip" field will be the one in the dropdown list but I want to capture the last 3 fields, ie point_id, point_amt, point_count.

The value is there, I want to insert it into a "recordstable" that will hold ALL points from member posts.

I will have a report that will show totals of all these posts.

You really only need the point_id

Once you get that:

INSERT INTO recordstable (yourColumn1, yourColumn2, etc.) SELECT (point_count, point_amount, etc.) FROM points1 WHERE id=$submittedID
