Is it possible to use PHP to parse an HTML page or Excel document that's on the web and extract info from them and put that info into a database?

Not only possible, very common. I've seen two or three questions pertaining to this in the last 24 hours. Search and ye shall find :p
Any idea on what to search for? I tried searching this site for "Parsing Html Files" and "Parsing Excel files" and only came up with 4 results, none of which had any usefull information...
