Calendar contest

Alright folks, this is the best I could come up with (I'm terrible at coming up with these).

CONTEST:

Create a calendar-type device to run over the web. (Hopefully this is clear enough)

Requirements:

There must be navigation allowing the user to browse through the days/months/years/etc...
Entries must be able to display the current month, highlighting the current day.
Entries must be able to store and retrieve "events" for a given time period
All entries must be as browser-neutral as possible. (I'll be judging this from either a Linux box or Panther, not sure which yet.)
There shall be no access to MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle, or any other database system.
Cookies may not be used.
Errors are bad news. (expect E_ALL)

Keep in mind, I'm looking for a little creativity here, so the more you innovate, the higher I'll rank it. Aesthetics are important, but are quickly disregarded in favor of cool features.

A lowdown on the test environment:
PHP 4.3.3
error reporting: E_ALL

Some of the available extensions:
- bcmath
- calendar
- gd (2.0.15-compat)
- xml (expat)
(and the usual standards)
If an extension you want to use is not listed, PM me and I'll see if it's installed, or if I've got another box to put it on.

PS:
While not required, please add comments where necessary, if you're so inclined. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and hints on complex code could help out at times.

There aren't any set points for anything--it's going to be purely subjective in the end I guess. 😃

Cool, I'll get in this one. I just helped someone else make something like this(but we used databases d@mm*t!), so I still have some of it fresh in my memory.

It might be wise to remember that it needs to do normal "calendar stuff" too 🙂, and the "cool" functionality has to be somewhat appropriate. If you went and added, for example, a calculator function... I would just completely disregard it, because it doesn't really add much to the "calendar experience" 😃

Just go and make a "good" calendar system 😃
An entry that's light on the "extras" could very well beat out a uber-functioned system, if the simple system is executed very well, and the uber-calendar is kludgy.

I was actually looking forward to seeing how non-US entries went about their date handling and such. 🙂

hmmm... php 4.3.3? ouch... i've been doing so much OOP stuff with php5... dont suppose i could host this off my own box and post the code? or are you too worried about my posting different code from what i've got running...?

I think the idea of goldbug hosting the code is so that everyone's code has to run using the same standards.

yeah.. i suppose... i just have a pretty nice class all set for encoding, encrypting, and compressing data... o well, i can work it into php 4 if i have to :p

but come to think of it, why would you need to encrypt calendar data stored on the server?😕 rhetorical question - i can think of several reasons, just none relevant (so call me paranoid, i'm just used to deflecting semantic mistakes or overseen loopholes in what i say)

Yea, during a conversation about clogs if I remember correctly (that's pretty unlikely though, judging by my memory for adverts), I confimed it while sifting through your rubbish last Thursday.
RE Denmark/Holland, I was only a couple of hundred miles out.
