Need help with Apache install

I appolige for posting this thread as there might be something like this on the forum but I couldn't find it.

I would like to learn about PHP and MySQL database to create dynamic webpages so I started reading about it and I found out that I need to setup a webserver to make this all possilbe.

So I have a PC running windows 2000 SP4 and I downloaded the Apache 2.0 the MSI Win32 one. After I installed it it asked me for a domain name and server name but I don't know how this works exactly because I currently have a web hosting company and they also provide me with my broadband connection (Shaw Cable). My account with them doesn't support PHP or MySQL.

As you can see I am alittle confused about the whole setup process when it comes to setting up Apache and the config. files and with my existing setup with my internet service provider.

So if someone could explain the steps to me it would be greatly appreciated.

Just put locahost in those prompts. Then, when you access the pages on your local computer, you'll just go to http://localhost

Ok I did that but then it generates a couple of errors:

First error -> ..could not open socket ...not allowed

Second error -> error <OS 2> The system can not find the file specified. No installed service named Apache2.

Then it brings up a window stating Apache monitor has been installed.

What am I missing?
