mysql errors

i have been getting errors randomly on my website. i can't seem to figure out what the problem is because the errors do not always happen. when i go to a page, i sometimes get a "mysql_num_rows or mysql_fetch_array is not a valid resource...blablabla" error, but if I refresh the page, they disappear and don't happen again for a week or a month or so. it can't be that im doing my select statement incorrect or else it would happen all the time and not just occasionally. can someone please tell me what the problem could be. thanks

Maybe you're exceeding the maximum number of connections to the mySQL service. What is the load like on your server?

Doesn't that bring up a "too many connections" error or something? The load is pretty big on the server. my whole website runs off the database.

Well, "not a valid resource" usually means your query is not being executed. There is no data returned by mySQL as a result set. It could happen if you're not connected, but you're right, you usually get an error saying you're not connected. It's all I could think of when you said it goes away with a refresh.
