mail() give internal server error

i am making a mailing program that takes the email addresses from a database and sends a message to the user..

when the script encounters a bad address asdf@asdf it gives me an internal server error..

mail($email, $subject, $message, 'from:[e-mail]');

the script works fine if all the addresses are valid..

i have tried putting @ in front of it but it still gives me the error..

im new at this so any help would be appreciated..
