Make top list from data base?

I have a table( table1) with the fields
id, name, points, email

I need to take out the five names with the most rows(posts) and also their points, and write something like this:

John 34
Sarah 27
Adam 22
Eric 16
Steve 11

This is only for the id:s with 300 or higher. (monthly competition, this month started with the id 300)

you go like this:

<?php $query=mysql_query("SELECT name, points FROM table1 WHERE id>'300' ORDER DESC BY points LIMIT 5");

while($array=mysql_fetch_array($query)){
echo $array['name'] . " " . $array['points'];
}

Actually I have not any "points" field (my mistake).

(one row is just like one point for the users)
