Stopping repeat entries

Hi guys,

Im doing a webite which asks for the user to enter their name, email address, age and location.

What is the best way of making sure, that new entries are not the same as older ones... and they are not entered into the mysql db? (every user has to have a unique email address at the very least)

Also is How can I make sure the string entered for an email address is vaild.........

any help will be as ever appreicated......

You can use a unique name field to be sure that entries won't be repeated and add an ID field. So, after your user has filled the form, you do the INSERT query, then you do a SELECT query where the name is the one passed with the form. If you get back an ID it means that the name entered is correct, otherwise you warn the user to insert a new name.
