Replacing characters

I have a \ in a variable and I want to replace it with nothing so in effect remove it. I am trying the following....

$hold=eregi_replace("\", "" , $image); echo $hold;

but I get an error. Is this because php sees this as an escape character.

Also how can I replace a cr/lf with nowt.

Use simple quotes:
$hold=eregi_replace('\', '' , $image); echo $hold;

And str_replace is a little quicker so you could replace eregi_replace with that.
