MySQL thread priority way too high

I am runnning the following on Windows2000:

MySQL 4.1.0-alpha-max-nt

Problem is that everytime I do an incorrect query, MySQL goes to processing frency which practically blocks the computer from any use. I can't even run the MySQL admin program to shut down the server.
In many of such cases I have to eventually reset the whole machine.

Is there any help to my problem?

Use EXPLAIN to check your queries before executing them.

Don't use windows.
