Advice.. best way to do this.

Hi all. I made a script for a gaming community that gets variables from a game server and inserts it into the db..

The problem I realize with it is there are sooo many players.... People whom dont play anymore with the same name are still ranked high on the queries and are ranked higher then people whom play more and more importantly, more recently.

My question is what is the best way of troubleshooting this problem?

Maybe add a date in the sql field and do my queries past that date?

Any other ideas?

I'd say something to the effect that you keep track of how often people are playing. If a person hasn't played for say, two weeks, they get knocked down ten places on the ladder, then after that, for each day, they get knocked down further and further down the ladder.

Well, a high score is a high score. You should put a time limit - 1 month - in your query so that it won't select any persons record that is older than that date. I think this is what you are planning, it sounds good to me...

I think I might roll with it and see how well it works. :/

Moving down 10 places... Yea.. i dont want to punish anyone... Currently I have a limit of 100 rounds to even be in the query so it weeds out alliasers as it is...

any other ideas ? O-o
