check box selection problem

hi,

im creating a form with includes two sets of check boxes:

to chose your sex (i.e. male or female)
to chose type of user (i.e. user a, user b)

What im having a problem is, how can i allow the 'user' to only select one checkbox, for example the 'user' can only select male on the sex criteria and not both male and female checkboxes?

You don't use checkboxes. You use radio buttons.

<input type="radio" name="sex" value="male">Male
<input type="radio" name="sex" value="female">Female

thanks, sorry you are right, it should be radio butons.

Just i have a little problem now, im using vaildation for the form which contains these radio buttons.

When the form is submitted with errors, the returned radio buttons are unchecked, which i don't want this to happen, i want it to return the radio buttons as they were checked, before the submission.

Can anyone help?

You just used the "CHECKED" directive in the radio button call. So just compare the submitted value and check the appropriate radio button. An example would be:

Vice versa for female.
