problems with form posting

Here's my problem:
When I submit forms using post, the server will hang if there is too much information.

Here's the funny crap:
1) The size limit is different on each computer, though usually around 500 bytes
2) It only happens on Internet Explorer
3) It only happens when the action is set to a php page (no problems with asp).

I don't want to learn asp just to make this work. The server is using IIS 5.0. Is there anybody who has a clue what I can say to the hosting company? I can't get them to help me at all. They have no clue. I'm not certain they even understand what's going on, despite a huge amount of time I have spent describing it to them on the phone, and the many e-mails I have sent them.

a size limit of 500 bytes??? that's nothing! php by default takes post data of up to 8megs

maybe it's a problem with the form, or the action script - post them both here - or attach them if they're big - and we'll sort ya

The limit isn't 500 bytes. That's an average, as I said it varies from computer to computer, and only does this in internet explorer. That's the weird nature of it. Go to www.nbstamps.com/test.php and just see how much you can put in that box. It's an extremely simple test just to show that it isn't my code, it's the server. The results are consistent no matter how complex or simple a form I make.
