using text after the slash for searching...

Hey guys (and gals),

I'm pretty well versed at PHP basics, however I do have a question that may or may not be easy.

If you've ever seen the php.net site, they offer the functionality to place SEARCH TEXT after the last slash. Does anyone know:

A) What that would be called so that I can do the research?

or

😎 How to handle it.

EXAMPLE:

www.php.net/mysql
or
www.php.net/bcmul

those take you to the mysql and bcmul php.net documentation, respectively.

We're not talking about parameters and values - just words after the slash.

.htaccess and mod_rewrite. A google search will show you all sorts of nifty tricks you can do. You would set it up to pass everything past the first / and send it off to a script (say a PHP script) and that script can locate and feed the page back to the browser.
