Multiple Languages

Hi all, i'm writting an aplication and i want to give the user the chance to change the language. What i'm doing right now is to use variables for every piece of code (i keep them in a multidim array) is this a bad aproach?
Any other idea.

Unless its a monsterous site it should be adequate.

It's about 50 pages.........with very little concurrent users, but very heavy querys to mysql.
Should be ok no?
