Strange MySQL File

I have MySQL 3.23.X on a Cobalt Raq4 Server.

It has been running great for about 2 years now, but I notice that there are files building up in the "/home/mysql" folder called:
cobalt-bin.001
cobalt-bin.002
cobalt-bin.003
cobalt-bin.004
cobalt-bin.005

Does anyone know what these are for and how to stop it? They are getting quite large - over a gig.

I could not get an answer from Sun.
