database ordering....

i have a database, only with two fields

ID mediumint auto
Title varchar(255)

in this table i have five rows

1. Doc 21
2. Doc 2
3. Doc 11
4. Doc 1
5. Doc 12

im querying that table, ordering by 'title'. the output is

4. Doc 1
3. Doc 11
5. Doc 12
2. Doc 2
1. Doc 21

which isnt quite what im looking for. id like to get

4. Doc 1
2. Doc 2
3. Doc 11
5. Doc 12
1. Doc 21

id like to do the ordering in the sql query, so what i want to hear from one of you is

'thats simple, all you do is

"SELECT * FROM YourTable AND ORDER BY Title BEING SURE TO BRING NUMERICAL ORDER"'

of course, i dont expect that - but any solutions would be good, nonetheless.

Hopefully I ask: is it actually possible that your data is
Doc 1
Doc 11

etc.?

Or is it more like

Sometitle 1
Doc 2
Some Other Title 1
Sometitle 11

yes, they will DEFINATELY be all named practically the same thing

Doc 1
Doc 2
Doc 3

etc.

what about splitting up the title into two parts

one column for "doc", "letter" and whatsoever and one column for the number

then you are able to do

ORDER BY titlename, titlenumber

and everything should be fine (if you define titlenumber as integer column

If TitleColumn is always
Doc 1
Doc 11
Doc 111
Doc 112
...
Doc 999
etc

You can

ORDER BY SUBSTRING(TitleColumn,4)*1
