Why? majority of people here use Windows in some form of development for PHP. I use Windows for Development

One thing I like about PHP is that you can run it on both Windows and *nix OSs, I don't think PHP would have been that popular if it didn't.
And don't start with this Windows OS sucks thing.

Yes it does but that wont stop people from using it.

Simply because most people don't have the tolerance to learn Linux. Windows is comfortable, and great for Joe User, who just surfs the net and reads email. My take has always been that if someone was to give Linux a real try, and not just freak out the first time theyh encounter a tarball, then they'd probably stick with it. But having to learn how to use your computer is too much to ask of a lot of people, so Windows will prevail :rolleyes:

Everyone knows Windows these days so that's all they use. I think if Unix is to take over it'll have to start in education. That way the kids learn it as a "first" OS rather than Windows.

The issues are the actual switch to Unix and software. It would take time to cycle all the Win computers through to Unix. Also, as with Mac's, there is hardly any software for it. There is such a large software base for Windows that it isn't possible to keep all the apps when switching to Unix. I speak from experience as I work at a school district. That's my 5 cents anyway. :p

Look, we all know there are good things and bad things about both windows and linux. They've all been argued before and they'll probably be argued again.

We're all intelligent people (well, most of us) and I think we can all make up our own minds, so lets move on to something else please?

Have you ever tried explaining to a computer illiterate (over the phone) how to setup their e-mail account? Verrrrry frustrating.
I think that Windows is easier to handle for the computer illiterate. Now, for geeks like us, a Linux Desktop sounds like fun.
