[Resolved] directory into variable

I don't remember exactly how this works but I do remember reading about this somewhere.

for the URL:

mysite.com/home

isn't there away to have "home" be assigned to a variable and not be a location? Does anyone know how this works?

I'm not exactly sure either which kind of makes this a difficult question....

What I'm trying to achieve is to make the pages look nicer in the address bar.

the URL:

mysite.com/index.php?page_name=questions

doesn't look as nice as

mysite.com/questions

and I'm certain in the PHP manual that there is some kind of a way to assign a directory like /question to a variable. I don't know how it worked but it seemed to make sense at the time. Something like IRC?

Just so you guys don't think I'm crazy, I found a link that explains this. You have to use Apache's forceType directive to do this...
