I'm about to embark on my first big php project. A completely interactive website. I have a few questions before I begin.
How do I track people who are logged in? I have heard of global variables but I'm not sure if that is what I am looking for. My idea is to have a 'logged in' table in my DB that is written to when a user logs in and then deleted from when a user logs out, not sure whether that is the best strategy though!
How do I count how many guests and members there are viewing the page? I'm guessing you've seen/used something like it before. Example "There are currently x guest(s) and y member(s) that are online".
Any pointers for building a site like this are also welcome.
