um...in windows 98-ME

click start->run->type command->hit enter

type netstat -a -> look for thier IP in the list where the IM rogram you are using is displayed

same for windows 2000-2003 except you type cmd in the run line instead of command

What do you want to use thier IP for?

Depending on which program you are using to chat with, you may not be able to get the person who your are chatting with's IP. I believe that Yahoo! Instant Messenger, for instance, does not directly connect the two computers(for security reasons) and therefore you cannot get their IP.
