I´m still lost with mysql on network

I don´t understand!!!!

I write in php, just the name of a database
(no path, only LOCALHOST)

AND PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME HOW/WHY
it goes directly to phpdev/mysql/data to find it,

who/where tells this path, I didn´t,
is it automatic?
how can I changed it?

what happen if I replace LOCALHOST by an IP or machine name,
and then install Mysql on that machine, should it work?

You need to do some reading. You obviously do not understand SQL databases of any kind. MySQL and any other sql engine run on one machine, usually the "server". It listens on a particular port for the clients to talk to it. The client machines can be *nix, Windows, Mac, whatever and they comunicate with MySql via TCP/IP not by the F: drive or //server/sharename or whatever. If Apache and PHP are also running on the same box as MySql, then your PHP code can address the MySql engine as "localhost" since it is "local". If not, then your code must address it as the machine name or IP address.
