[Resolved] Replace Character

I'm currently working on a script and I've run into a problem... it seems to be a well knowen problem from what I've read.... but I'm hopeing for a simple solution

in a form textbox is there a way using php to replace all single quotes (') with the numeric equivalent ( & # 3 9 ; ) before something is sent to a MySQL database for storage and later retreavile?

You don't need to replace, you can just [man]addslashes[/man]. But if you want to replace, just [man]str_replace[/man]

first off I want to thank you for your quick reply

second I guess I should have been more clear about what I'm needing this for....

what I've got is the following with the following problem:

I've got a directory on a website I'm working on that allows users to submit webpages to it (http://avcs.tk)

now the problem I seem to be having is that if anyone submitts anything with any single quotes (') in the title or discription of their site it dosen't show up on my end at all for me to even edit it and put in the numeric code for the single quotes and I can't have the \'s as it's a live site where the content that's inputted is showen on the site almost as soon as it's put up....

sorry to be picky or a bother about this... but I'm thinking that it's not at all estectically pleasing for visitors to the site to see \' when ever they see something like don't or any other contraction

ok... I've figured things out enough now that I've got the following in my code.... however I still seem to be having a bit of trouble

$badchar = array("'");
$goodstring = str_replace($badchar, "&#39;", "$desc");

the problem is that now it won't put anything in for a description in the database ($desc tag is the one that seems to be empty now)

any ideas?

I got it all figured out... there wasn't a problem with the code but rather with the user.... I put the code inside a } that it shouldn't have been in 🙂
