Form variables not passing (only sometimes)

Hi,

I have two situations now (different sites, same server), one calls another php page and one calls a cgi script. I've noticed when I use them in a secured (https) environment they sometimes don't get all of the variables. However, I can hit back on the browser and resend and it will work. Sometimes I do have to hit back and resend a few times.

The pages seem to work fine in a non-secured (http) environment.

Any ideas would be nice. I have had to put junk in my code like "if you don't see blah, blah on this page, hit back on your browser and resend".

It's hard to say for sure, but there is a very good chance that it is just the server, in which case there is probably nothing you could do to fix it. You could test whether your script is getting all of the data by simply echoing all of the post variables like this:

<?PHP
print_r($_POST);
?>

If some of the variables don't appear, then it is either a server problem or a browser problem(you could tell that it's a browser problem by testing it on several browsers).

Unfortunately it will be hard to tell if it sometimes works... Those are normally the hardest problems to fix. 😉

When the problem does happen, nothing is being sent.

$_post passes empty.

Then it could be the code.

Which code? Server PHP code or the html code?

If HTML, you can see the one of the pages with a problem at https://www.healthregistries.com/BrainNet_regform.php. Again it only happens sometimes.

If your $_POST variable is empty, it is most likely that it is either a browser problem or a server problem. If you have had it fail on several different browsers(or have had other people tell you that they had the same problem), then I would suggest that you write to the server administrators and ask them for help.

Is it ok if I submit that form that you linked to? I'd like to check it out, but I don't want to send someone a bunch of e-mails with false data if you have it setup to do that... 😉

Many people get the error although I haven't kept track of what browser they were using.

Go ahead and submit the forms. Use "test" for your name or something like that so that I know it's a test. I am the server administrator and also get the e-mails.

When it works, you will get a thank you screen. When it fails, I have the script tell you the "server is busy". It calls the script fine but since all the variables are blank, all the CASE statements fail and end up at the default where I just say "server busy".

I tried it several times, but I couldn't get it to fail, but as you said, it only doesn't work occasionally, so... 🙂 The form looked ok, and the page is only sometimes receiving the data, so it is most likely a server problem.

You said that you are the administrator... You have this server set up and you are running it? If so, I'm not sure what to tell you, but if you are hosting your site through somewhere else, I would suggest writing your host and telling them the problem you are having.
