Text Vs Varchar

Hi!

In MS SQL SERVER....

a TEXT(16) is equivalent to a VARCHAR ( ???? ) ??

In general... what is the equivalence in sizes between VARCHAR and TEXT?

Really there is no equivelant...

A TEXT field can contain up to some 16000 pages of text, (also known as a blob) whereas a VARCHAR can only be set to a maximum length of 8000 characters. (MS SQL 2000 or better, 7.0 was max at 2000 if i recal correctly)

Also, VARCHAR fields can generally be used as an index while TEXT fields cannot.

Aye, thatnk you, i did forget to add that.. as well as varchar fields can be used in a "select distrinct" where text fields can not
