sorting stuff

I'm having a problem in results displayed in php, but it's with mysql.

I have several product names such as

BACKUPS100
BACKUPS240
BACKUPS1200
BACKUPS1400
BACKUPS2000 ... etc

However, it's sorting like this:

BACKUPS100
BACKUPS1200
BACKUPS1400
BACKUPS240
BACKUPS2000

I need it to sort from smallest to largest. I know that if it were a number field I wouldn't have this problem, but, it has BACKUPS in it so therefore it can't be a number field.

Put it into an array and use asort();

Sorry just tested that idea it doesnt work, as the 2 comes after the 1 so BACKUPS240 will come after BACKUPS2000

As your using MySQL why not create an extra feild to make the order of it, or use something to sort it by like a date etc

This is a job for [man]usort[/man].

Define a function to compare strings the way you want (parse out the numeric part and compare that), then use [man]usort[/man] to sort based on that function.
