combining modules

I'm building a site using various PHP scripts/modules I've found on the net; help for any of the following would be appreciated:

1) Is combining scripts straightforward; what are the basic steps?

2) Are there certain things I have to be careful of?

3) Is there a good source for info/tutorials on this?

4) Am I in over my head?!

Could be as simple as:

//script A

<?php

// script a stuff here

// then call script B

include 'scriptb.php';

// more script a stuff here

However, there can be all kinds of potential pitfalls, and debugging multiple scripts might be a bit of a hairpuller at times ... best I can say, give it a try and see what happens ...
