Section specific Sidebar Navigation

In the attached txt file you will find a php function that generates a sidebar navigation menu specific for each section of the site.

The generated html is a graphic that denotes the section and links to the section root then text links to each main sectional page (and alternately sub-pages) applying a CSS class to the current page.

I have attached a generic version of this function. This is my very first PHP creation. Please tear it apart, and help me learn!
