Sounds good, Piersk. Now I don't want you to think I'm obsessed with your bottom, but have you considered getting the .NET logo tattooed on your arse just to keep all your bases covered? I mean, MS could suddenly go all open source in about 5 years while PHP and MySQL suddenly turn all corporate - then where would you be? No self-respecting geekette would want to get up close and personal with you as soon as she saw those tattoos on your arms, but having that Microsoft logo as a back-up might swing it for you.

You just don't know, Piersk. I mean, MySQL is getting quite corporate and Microsoft has started releasing open-source web servers. Before you know it, Visual Studio could be free while Apache costs $199.

It's a topsy-turvy world and when it comes to allowing someone to etch indelible ink into your skin, you want to be thinking about the future.

MS releasing OS stuff? I thought that was only if you spend 100 billion dollars (said with pinky in mouth 😃 ), then you could get a license to view the code...

Well, they haven't released anything significant, but the Cassini web server (C#) is open source, I was amazed to discover. It's the server behind Web Matrix, and a mere 217Kb. Drop in the ocean, of course, but I was surprised to find anything at all at Microsoft which could be described as open source.

Not quite sure why they decided to release Cassini. They don't say why. Perhaps they want to take ASP.NET to the masses. Who knows?
