how to find "http" or "https"

I am having to post auto-generated email to an authorized user giving them the URL back to the application.

I'm stuck in one area: I have no way of knowing if the URL begins with "http" or "https". How do I detect the prefix to know if it's in an SSL or not?

if your server uses standard ports, use the $_SERVER["SERVER_PORT"] variable. if you are using ssl (https) the port will be 443 and regular http will be 80.
check for port number and depending on what one they are on, you can tell if its ssl or not.
