mail function

Can anyone tell me why this bit of code won't work. My email is a hotmail account and so is the users.

I have heard about this sendmail business but amnot sure if thats why the code below wont work

$subject= "crap";
$body= "hope this bloody works";
&mailsend= mail($address, $subject, $body);
?>

should be

mail($address, $subject, $body); 

you can also add headers

take a look here [man]mail[/man]

Depending on the users settings in hotmail it may come up as junkmail or deleted

i Hve tried what you said, but not joy.

I went to the link you provided it says that i have to make changes to my php.ini

i did make changes to my php.ini before but it didnt work. I am running 4.3.4

I made changes to the following lines

[mail function]

SMTP = 25

sendmail_from = [e-mail]

Hotmail has a problem with PHP mailers. Some programs that specialize in this have better luck.

still no joy even when i use my smtp email

Any suggestions, its really bugging me this becuase the code is so simple yet not result.

why have you set SMTP = 25?

smtp should be a hostname (eg smtp.myisp.com) or an ip address (eg 192.168.0.1). 25 means nothing and so won't work

I have even tried changing the sendmail address to an email address that uses smtp and also have out the smtp address in the SMTP section but still no joy

I have given up on using mail() because I couldn't succeed. I use PHPMailer instead and an external smtp server. PHPMailer can be found here
