i have signed up for blogger.com... i noticed that they have an xml files on my server... where do the xml tags get executed? on my server or from blogger.com?

is there some sort of code in php or something that executes these tags? how do i define tags?

want i want is the very basic... when i mean basic, i mean basic... i cant seem to find a good article.. although i have read a little bit from w3cschools.com, can't really grasp the idea... i mean i know it has predefined tags, but where do i define these and how do i tell the server that this tag will this and that???

By an XML parser.
Mozilla Firefox and most other modern browsers should be able to handle XML, to some extent.

Sinus, are you referring to the Blogger.com RSS feed files?

They are simply made available to anyone who wants an information feed from your site. They are served up as XML, to be processed by whatever software the user employs.

XML files aren't "executed." XML is just a method of marking up data so that both sender and receiver can understand it.

i was just curious how the server understands this:
<date>April 12, 2004</date>

does the server have a program/script in PHP/ASP that can process and understand
<date>April 12, 2004</date> ?

The server doesn't do anything with the RSS file other than deliver it to requestors.

If you want to see what RSS feeds are good for, download and install an RSS reader. See:

http://blogspace.com/rss/readers

Of course, it is possible to fetch an RSS file from a remote location using PHP, parse it, render it into HTML, and display it on your site. Google "php rss parser" for examples.
