Hey, my name is Drew, I'm 17, and I programed a small journal program that is an alternative to livejournals, xangas, etc. where users can customize and do a good handful of things given that I'm the sole author of this program.
Please make an account, check it out for a sec and then suggest a way to solve this problem i have (there are many more bugs around the site that ive been too lazy to fix).
makeshift journal :]
If you take a look at this, you can enable a mod on the journal called the RPG MOD (1+1=2) gahha. With it, users accounts can attack each other in a text based style rpg.
Users die once attacked enogh, then respawn in 30 minutes or can puchase a revive, heath packs, etc.
They gain experience to be stronger like a regular rpg, etc.
OK OK, you've heard enough. Users have their own entry in a MySql table that is attached to ANOTHER entry in a mysql table which is their RPG user profile that contains all their stats, etc. These are linked together of course.
I want to make it so that users can learn abilities. Of course, this can be done with adequete experience.
The problem I have is implementing the unique instructions that are needed for each "skill." Like some stronger bomb attack that hurts mutliple users, a roullete move that kills someone instantly and randomly.
I can make a table for these skills but where are the instructions stored? should I just make one really large sys_logic_skills.php or something that accepts custom parameters, etc for each skill?
I want to make it so you can add more skills quickly and easily and possibly make it so I could "make up" new skills on the fly via filling out a web form.
dont be worried, i can and know how to do this... but ghettoly...thats exactly what i dont want. I want to do it once and right since this has been such an intense undertaking for being a f---in hobby.
Gahaha.
Well ive written too much.
If you cant help, PLEASE just visit and give me comments about it.
again: makeshift journal :]
Thanks!
