mysql Foreign language support

Hello,

I need to make my site multi-lingual. In other words, a user can select a language from a SELECT box, and the site would be displayed in that language.

http://www.voanews.com/ includes such design.

I need ideas on how to get this done. Leads to articles, books and tutorials is most welcome.

My setup is apache/php/mysql/redhat.

Use the unicode character sets (UTF-8 or UTF-16) to allow the use of local charcacter sets....

CREATE DATABASE db_name
[[DEFAULT] CHARACTER SET character_set_name]
[[DEFAULT] COLLATE collation_name]

ALTER DATABASE db_name
[[DEFAULT] CHARACTER SET character_set_name]
[[DEFAULT] COLLATE collation_name]
