Displaying / Managing line breaks from database inserts

Hi,

I have a form that submits a block of text to the database, which is working fine.

What i could do with some advice on is that the inserted data has line breaks in it, for example:

agagagagagagagagagaggdgdgdgdg
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

But when i go to display the records, all of the data is blocked together, for example:

agagagagagagagagagaggdgdgdgdg
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

which i understand will happen, the only way i can get around the spacing problem is to add <br> between each block, which isn't ideal.

I wondering whether anyone could suggest a better way around this problem?

Hi,

What I do in situations like that is:

1. retrieve the text from mysql

2. use php's nl2br() on the text.

The text should now display properly on your webpage.

How does it work?

I found a simliar problem to mine on this forum, so i copy the idea, as follows:

<?php echo nl2br($row['ThreadMessage']);?>

It still seem to print in a block?

Can anyone help?

[man]nl2br/man basically inserts <br /> for every new line sequence.

Say my database field shows:

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj

would the function print a <br> between the two paragraphs? or not? (because thats what im trying to do !!)
