Planning a DVD Cataloging System

I am beginning a project that will essentially be a web-based dvd collection application, that I would like to function similar to sites like guzzlefish.com and dvdprofiler.com.

I am looking for suggestions for features, methods, and sample script resources I can use to plan this project before I get started. I hate being 12 hours in and decide I want to set up the databases another way, or rearrange how the content goes in, so suggestions and reccommendations are very welcome.

As of now I am considering doing a DVD TABLE that houses all the individual dvd information, a persons table which allows a single person to be an actor, producer, writer or director of multiple movies, under the same name, and a table to bring both of them together.

If all of this makes sense, I would really appreciate it if anyone has any links to similar scripts as resources, and even suggestions for how to map it out.

Have you taken a look at HotScripts.com?

I usually like to take a look around there to get an idea, and then write my own, as I know where problems are, and so on.

If I were you, I would have 2 databases- DVD and PEOPLE. Not necessarily uppercase, just so you can see them better here. Inside DVD, I would have, but not limited to

-Title
-Category (comedy, etc)
-Catalog Number
-Rating
-Plot

And PEOPLE-

-Name
-Position

I'm sure you can come up with more than 2 for people, but I can't 🙂.

Get to know how to use the LIKE and FULLTEXT for searches. I'm guessing by "bring them together" you mean the results?

I'd like to help you on this. I think it would be a fun learning experience for the both of us.
