Login Question

This question has probably been asked I just don't know how to search it as I am not sure what to search for.

I have a protected page and if you are not logged in already you get sent to the login page once you login you are sent back to the link you just clicked and tried to get access to.

Like these forums. My question is how do you do that? Does some one have a link or tutorial on this.
