try and look for windows updates regarding security fixes...
also try and find remote help and DISABLE THE DAMN FUNCTIONπ
lastly you could try some good firewalls...
i'd recomment the good old tiny personal firewall.. or Norman firewall (yes! Norman, not shitty Norton!)
To be more save try and look for internet security in your internet modem or router.... and configure the NAT protocol or Buildin firewall (but that is not totally save i heard, works fine for me though since i do not really care about that)
I figured out another way of protecting your files. I dont know if its possible in XP but for 2000 it works fine! (read carefully because this does not protect your computers only your files!!!)
Also this brings some risks, like you cannot enter your own harddisk! SO KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING.
1st go to my computer. select properties off your harddrive.
go to security and remove all user rights except the administrator!
Also you could make an custom account with admin rights and delete the original administrator rights aswell ( DO NOT DELETE THE ADMIN ACCOUNT!!!!!!!)
Do this on every harddrive and voila your files are save for as long you keep your password for yourself... NOT THAT THIS DOES NOT NECCESARILY PROTECT THE SYSTEM RESOURCES π i never tried that it only prevents users to enter your files as far as i know.
ALSO I HAD TO REINSTALL THE COMPLETE COMPUTER because it crashed on applying my way of security π so be carefull!
Well if all this dont work the just pull the plug of internet π
