save dialog box

Is there anyway to open a save dialog box prompting the user to save the file they clicked on via hyperlink?

I'm not sure if this is PHP, but I didn't manage to find anything I could use in javascript. I know you can save an HTML document, but a file is another story...

You have to change the headers, this is what I use to save a text file instead of viewing it.

header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=$name");
header('Content-type: text/html');

echo $data;

Its the same when you right click save a file.

Also, you could have tested this faster then posting a reply: Upload new php script, copy/paste the above. Make a $name and $data variable. Go to the url and see what it does.

What is the data variable supposed to do?

Yeah, I tested out the script- but I may have done something wrong because nothing popped up. Does it save it automatically, or does it go to the dialog box that "save as" gives you?
