[Resolved] splitting many database records into multiple pages

i have some code that gets the total number of rows in a database,
it then displays links to different pages and different amount of
results per page.
Using the LIMIT #,# in a mysql i was hoping to limit the results per page.
except i'm having trouble
here is examples of the limit when there are 5 records per page:
page 1 = 0,5 (was originally 1-5 but was missing out the first row)
page 2 = 6,10
page 3 = 11,15
page 4 = 16,20

but on the first page it shows the first 5 records, woo so good so
far
then i go to the second page where the sql statement is:
SELECT * FROM tablename LIMIT 6,10
which doesnt show the 6th row,

any ideas?

would some code help?

The LIMIT clause can be used to constrain the number of rows returned by the SELECT statement. LIMIT takes one or two numeric arguments, which must be integer constants. With two arguments, the first argument specifies the offset of the first row to return, and the second specifies the maximum number of rows to return. The offset of the initial row is 0 (not 1):

Consider it like an array. All records start at zero. So break it down:

First page(0,5):
record 0
record 1
record 2
record 3
record 4

Second page(6,10):
record 6
record 7
record 8
record 9
record 10
record 11
record 12
record 13
record 14
record 15

I think you really want to go like this:
1) 0,5
2) 5,5
3) 10,5
4) 15,5
5) 20,5

And so on....

ah ta,
originally i had code which gave:
0,5 6,5 11,5 and so on
but then coming back to it today (original code coded awhile ago)
i saw that and thought it was wrong,
(me thinking that it was supposed to be: start,finish
and not start,length

also one thing.
will the method still work if i wanted to order the code?

ORDER BY id DESC

changed it back to 0,5 6,5 11,5
it displays the first 5 on page one, but on page 2 it doesnt display the other rows

also if i change the records per page to 10,
so the limit becomes, 0,10
it displays the 6th row that was not being displayed when
5 records per page was selected

just got it now. for 5 records its:
0,4
5,9
10,14
