Redirection not working...no output before header is called

I did quite a bit of scouring the forums before posting this and yes, I understand that you cannot have any output before a header is called. What I did was create a page that does only this--it's supposed to redirect the browser to the root no matter what. But it doesn't work. Nothing happens--"Test" never appears so the exit command obviously works, but the header doesn't do any directing. I tried this in Mozilla and IE and got the same results. Is it something with PHP.ini?

Ok, I checked my logs (I'm using Apache 2.0.48) Nothing in the error logs. The access log gives this message:

ip # - - [20/Apr/2004:18:39:13 -0500] "GET path/headertest.php HTTP/1.1" 200 4

headertest.php is the name of the page that should redirect the user. Nothing looks out of the ordinary to me.

Remove the exit call...?

removed everything but the header command and I tried using http://www.google.com

didn't work. I wrote the page in Notepad so there's no generated code on the page. I don't know...it's a tough problem but probably has something to do with the server or my browser settings or the php.ini file or...(shrug)

So if you're not being redirected, is anything at all being sent to the browser?

No, it comes up as a blank page. All the page is is the code from above. When you view the page's source there's nothing there at all.
