But if we're not careful, we'll miss the point that Laserlight made. If your JS validation code doesn't add too much to the size of the HTML file being sent to the browser, and it's not too hard to do, use both.
Some designers are forgetting that some people still have rather slow connections. If you can save your user a page load by validating on the client side first, so much the better for these people. Remember the users....
