finding the region on client

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this particular senerio:

I have a site that attracks a client base that expands multiple states (the entire U.S east coast actually). I have a classified ad script that shows featured classifieds on the classified index page. However, if ... say somebody from Florida logs on they would probably want to see classifieds from just Florida instead on Maine since that is obviously more local to them.

My question is .... is there some (network function perhaps?) to find the region related to the ip address (most have dynamic ips)?? I've been all over php.net function list but still am pulling my hair over this. Is this possible???? Any help is greatly appreciated...

I'm not sure about the states within the USA but there are quite a few services offering country identification including:

Just checked, Maxmind have a fee based region database
