why doesn't this line of code work?

I perform a query then I want to present a link to an email adfdress

here's the line that doesn'y work

print '<a href="mailto:'. $qry["email"]. '" class="smallLink">$qry['email']</a>';

I know it's a simple syntax issue.
but I can't figure it out

what doesnt work, do you get a parse error or does no email address show up. maybe show some of the code for doing the query if its because of the second reason i said.

I would suggest putting the 2nd $qry['email'] out side of the quotes like this:

print '<a href="mailto:'. $qry["email"]. '" class="smallLink">' . $qry['email'] . '</a>';

Perhaps this would work better:

'<a href=\"mailto:'. $qry["email"]. '\" class=\"smallLink\">$qry['email']</a>';

You need to mark the qoutation marks as special charactors. Please let me know if this helps as I am also quite new at this.

I haven't tried your code since the previous explanation worked out quite well.

I get confused with all the quotation marks, so the less, the better.
